Mitch Kittell's back 180

So here's a shot of mitch k blasting a huge back 180 in north van. The lighting is a basic three light setup with the main being camera right a small fill camera left and a bit of rim from the top of the stairs on the ground. My only regret is that I didn't think to flag off the light a bit so as to not hit the tree as much.  Hope you like it, cause mitch busted his ass for this one.

Shooting skate

Just recently i shot with a local skater at a secret location and had a friend publish a little edit of the shoot. It was a tough spot both to shoot and to skate. We didn't get the shot but here's a little bit of what I go through to get something. If you can, look at the video with an eye for what's actually going on cause it doesn't tell fully the story of what im doing. First off the video shows where im sitting and some of the equipment being used. Allow me to elaborate what i was thinking and give you an overview. This spot is a door way in between two embankments that have a tranny paved up them so you can do a trick on the wall. Rob (the skater) was attempting to go over the door (he came so close it was sick) and I was trying to capture the best angle to show how steep the bank was and how high he had to go. So I chose my 50mm lens (would have used a bit wider say a 35mm if i had one) and shot from the left side so as to show the bank and the door in the shot. The framing turned out fairly well but there's always something that afterwards you wish you can change (thats life though). Now lets talk about what you see in the lighting. Not to far from camera left I had an alien bee high above(full power)  and a vivtar (1/4) below on the same stand to capture and fill what the bee misses. Camera right i had a small speed light facing the door and pretty close to the wall. Ideally I would have liked to have another flash hidden in the doorway and another waaaay off camera right giving a bit of rim light. We have to go back so with a little more thought and time i think we can nail an amazing frame. Click on the link to see the video.

odds and ends

Here are some pics of my wife kat on her way back from the dahlia festival (there are sooo many flowers on her bike). The other is from some street hockey i played at an old set of nets near by. All are shot with available light and both were fun just to shoot with no intention other than to show the viewer a glimpse of what i see. Hope you enjoy.

old but nuhic

Here's a shot of Luna Nuhic from the band "Muscles" (go check em out) that I shot a while back and thought id share it with you. She actually came in to help me with a shoot that i was setting up for a large group of people in where they would be under exposed and one person in her position would be proper. The light was a snooted photogenic high and above camera right. In an ideal world i wanted the light to be softer for the shoot but for luna I think it turned out nice and contrasty. Its funny how when you go in to a shoot with one thing in mind but come out with something completely different. Thats life...............and im pumped on it!

Luke Tanner

Here's a little composition of a session Luke Tanner and I shot together. The end result is a fakie varial flip over the barrier but the rest is the story of what it took to get it. From getting there to him hurting himself to dealing with a lot of distraction. The lighting was simple but the timing was hard. Hope you enjoy.

Got my hands on a 4x5 for the first time in a while and man was i pumped to shoot with it. Its not the easiest and for this shot id have liked to get up a bit higher but im still stoked on it. enjoy.
