A wedding shoot?

So my mom just got married and she asked me to shoot the ceremony. It's not a regular occurrence for me to shoot a wedding or engagement but it was a privilege to be there my mom and her now husband. Here's some images from an engagement session we had. Thanks mom for being such an inspiration in my life and for being such an amazing women. Congratulations to Birgit and Allan Haggstrom!

sneak peak

Sneak peak of an editorial i shot with a local guitar builder here in Vancouver. Here's hoping it gets picked up soon. I'll give more information and hopefully tear sheets when it gets to print.
We (editorial photographers) are in an interesting industry, where we live and die by our photography and weather or not we get our work published. Its always a bit of an agonizing experience every-time I take a photo (is it good enough? will an editor have a place for it? does it resonate?). All in all if your an editorial photographer and your where I am (freelance and early in my career) then you gotta LOVE what you do and have a passion for your little niche. If you do..........it will come...........it will come..............will it come?

True Heroines

Here's a shot from a creative I've been working on. This was from the end of the day of shooting and its a very rough edit. The creative is for an up and coming t.v. show called true heroines. I'll post up more info when I have the final piece finished. Thanks for the look!

productive week

So many times ive thought of certain skaters for certain spots but haven't had the chance to shoot with them for a multiple different reasons. On this occasion Derek Epp was in town and down to shoot at a spot ive been thinking of for him. We got this kickflip and throughout his efforts i just happened on this angle just with the sheer time it took for derek to get it. During the week i had a chance to shoot with a few more skaters and hopefully you'll be seeing those shots really soon.

Velodrome

A friend of mine and I recently went to the burnaby velodrome to check out an event they had there. I was pleasantly surprised at how amazing these riders are. I really enjoyed how talented both the men and the women are. Here's a picture of the elite women's final race (wich was amazing by the way). I decided that i would just use a hand held flash and drag the shutter. I know the flash is a bit hot but i enjoy the composition and the extreme angle.

Family photos

Its not a normality for me to shoot traditional portraits but lately I've been doing a few things that are outside of my realm of expertise (thats ironic because i don't really consider myself an expert at anything.............yet). I know its said that we as artists or photographers should specialize and not be jacks of all trades, but there's something to be said about learning in the early stages of our career. Learning could be us figuring out that we don't like to do some things or don't have the desire to, or it could be a lightbulb moment after we do a shoot that we wouldn't necessarily take if we had a choice.
To tell you the truth, I don't think its a bad thing to take work thats outside of your realm of understanding. I read somewhere that Joe Mcnally jumps at jobs that he's not confident with, why can't you or I think like that? This isn't a rant to tell people to not specialize, more to not turn down opportunities early on in your career. You never know, you might turn out to like it or if anything you might learn something for what you do intend on doing.
Learn learn learn.

Anyways here's a couple shots from a family shoot i did where I shot both the whole family as well as independent shots.
