headshots?

Man i have no idea where to start, im so used to just going in to a shoot and shooting what I want. Just last week I had a chance to shoot for a fellow langara student from the acting part of town and he needed some headshots for his new career. Suffice to say I have no idea what casting directors want and where to start at all. So I boiled it down, what have I learned about how to light for portraiture? What have I learned about how to deal with posing, positioning, framing and exposure? Swipes might help (thanks Catherine :p). I thought from there id be ok, I think it worked out and I think I'll be able to get some good shots from the shoot but repetition is def. key. All this aside there's a little something I like to call pillow talk that helps to have up your sleeve cause these things tend to take a while and making your client comfortable is key. So without a due here's a few shot I shot. I used three speedo's in a simple setup that included one for fill, one for hair and one to create a gradated background.

autumn fashion

There's an assignment coming up for me at school for autumn fashion and I got a chance to shoot with a friend of mine. It was a really good chance to work on lighting and guiding the subject. I lit him with a shoot through umbrella that was gobo'd to create a gradation down lower. I lit the background with a warm gelled light for separation. It was a fun learning experience and enjoyed it immensely.

night shot

just wanted to post up a quickie just before I head out to school. The other night I was working on shooting a night shot of some architecture and as I was heading to my location I came across this building. I see it all the time just not late at night and for some reason I was compelled to shoot it. From both this and the other building I shot, I have a new found respect for architecture photogs cause it aint easy trying to find a good spot to shoot from that shows the whole building in the best possible way. I definitely didn't do the it justice and I challenge you all out there to find a better spot cause Id like to see it.

the Bay

Hey all, shot a fashion shoot today for the Bay's olympic clothing launch. I'm not gonna say that the runway is my cup of tea but i did get some time to hang out with my mom and sister. Also got a chance to step outside of my comfort zone which isn't so bad either.

beverage shoot

I just woke up waaaay to early to shoot a photo i probably wont look at more than once, but thats photography (i guess). I digress, on to the post. I just wanted to post up a test shot of a beverage shoot i had to do recently at school that I quite liked. It was a simple setup with 2 kickers giving a rim light and a strip softbox overhead. Thanks to Eric Stewert for the strip softbox idea.
